Braunfels, TX - October 10, 2012 - Dr. Mark Hickman's
goal with his practice and this ministry is to make vasectomy reversal

Dr. Hickman attended the University of Texas Medical Branch in
Galveston, Texas, where he received his medical degree at the age of 23. He
found himself drawn to surgery and was admitted to the General Surgery
Residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio,
where he trained for five years. It was during this time he was first
introduced to microsurgery. Afterwards, he had the privilege to spend almost a
year in Edinburgh, Scotland as Senior Clinical Fellow of Thoracic (chest)
Surgery prior to entering private practice in New Braunfels, Texas in 1988.
The subsequent 22 years have been exciting, fulfilling, and never
dull for Dr. Hickman. He had the distinct privilege of being an early pioneer
in laparoscopic (minimally invasive telescopic) surgery in South Texas. Dr.
Hickman had the honor of serving his country during Operation Desert
Shield/Storm as a surgeon aboard the hospital ship USNS Mercy, when he was
called to active duty as a Navy Reservist.
After more than two decades in practice, Dr. Hickman thought he
had pretty much experienced all the changes one would expect in a full surgical
career, but he was mistaken. A fine Christian gentlemen, Dr. Cary Leverett,
introduced Dr. Hickman to his ministry at the New Braunfels Vasectomy Reversal
Center. It didn't take Dr. Hickman long to become fascinated with the wonderful
couples who had come from all over the United States and Canada for their
vasectomy reversal surgery.
On a more personal level, Dr. Hickman is very involved in church
activities and ministries. He's served on the Parish School Council, sings in
two choirs and has been extensively involved in the Men’s ACTS Retreat
Ministry. Dr. Hickman currently serves on the Apostolate Board for the North
American Province of the Missionaries of the Holy Family.
